Adding a Fourth Dimension to 3D Modeling

The Denver Art Museum expansion was inspired by the Rockies—and required 3x the amount of steel typically used. Scheduling this project correctly was imperative.

The plans for the Denver Art Museum expansion called for transforming more than 2,700 tons of steel and about 50,000 bolts—three times the amount in a conventional building of the same size—into a complicated skeleton that would support and create oblique angles. If even one beam was placed or bent the wrong way, it could create a chain-reaction of additional errors that would need to be corrected, costing exponentially more resources—and time. This made it imperative for them to ensure the timing of the assembly for each component integrated within their building model.
