Tekla Global BIM Awards for students

The best projects from the local competitions and those entered via Tekla Campus will be entered into the 2024 Tekla Global BIM Awards and internationally promoted.

Steps for entering

Entry criteria

The competition is open globally to full-time enrolled students studying in an educational institute. Projects can be carried out individually or as a team of a maximum of five members. They must also be modeled using Tekla Structures educational configuration partially or entirely.

Note: If you are entering via a school course and would like to help your professor receive a Tekla Structures grant for the school’s lab computers, please include the name of your school, course, and the name of your professor on the entry form.

Examples of appropriate usage of Tekla software include:

  1. The foundation was modeled/detailed using Tekla Structures
  2. The frame was modeled/detailed using Tekla Structures
  3. The façade was modeled/detailed using Tekla Structures
  4. The drawings were created using Tekla Structures
  5. Bills of material were created using Tekla Structures
  6. Import/export functionalities were used in Tekla Structures

Prizes

The winners of the 2024 Tekla Global Student BIM Awards receive:

  • A framed award certificate for the project participants
  • Amazon gift card of EUR 500 for the whole team
  • Publicity: winner announcement in international press releases, global online attention, an interview helping you get noticed and to use as a reference
  • Students entering on behalf of their school course will also benefit their school with:
    • A mention of the school in a press release announcing the winners and global online publicity.
    • One-year free subscription of Tekla Educational Bundle given to the winners’ school.

Steps for entering

​​​​​​You can enter your project to the competition either via a local competition or global qualification. The submission for this year's competition has finished and all the projects will be published in Autumn.

Follow these steps to enter the competition: Prepare the project material package and fill in the entry form.

The project material package should include:

  1. The .DB1 file and profile database file of the Tekla model (model folder).
  2. Model snapshots. At least three image files with a minimum 1000 pixels in width/height, e.g. PNG format, featuring the whole model and relevant details are recommended to be snapped).
  3. Drawings of the projects (2-3 PDF files, at least one general layout drawing, and one detailed shop drawing).
  4. Images. At least one image file with a minimum of 1000 pixels in width/height demonstrating the artist's/architect's impressions of the project. Remember that good images strongly impact your success in the competition.
  5. IF you have done any system modifications, please submit also: 
    • Profile database (profdb.BIN)
    • Material database (matdb.BIN)
    • Bolt database (screwdb.DB)
    • Bolt assembly database (assdb.DB)
    • Rebar database (rebar_database.INP)
    • Parametric profiles (profitab.INP)

We recommend archiving all the files mentioned above to a .zip file when submitting your project.

Be sure to include the following information for submission:

  1. Project members’ personal information, such as their name and email address.
  2. Information about your educational institution.
  3. Project presentation showing your project ideas, background, project statistics, what you have learned in the project, etc.
  4. Project material package sharing link. You can choose any cloud or file-sharing service.
  5. Your motivation for participating in the competition.

Judging criteria

You don’t have to be a BIM wizard quite yet. Models are judged by the jury based on their impressiveness, quality, various tools used during their creation, and the following criteria:

  • Project design 
  • Complexity of the model 
  • Level of Development (LOD)
  • Use of the model 
    • Examples displayed in drawings
    • Examples displayed in bill of materials
    • How was BIM used in the model? 
      • Workflow on the project demonstrated
  • Submission (choice of images, project presentation) 
  • Submissions must include: 
    • Project brief & link to student studies
    • Challenges faced and overcame
    • Drawings
    • Images
