We’re pleased to submit the noted project for consideration of the 2016 Tekla BIM Awards. The utilization of Tekla Structures through not only our detailing efforts, but that of the Structural Engineer – HGA Architectural & Engineering (HGA) proved to be a path to success on such an intricate project. KCSSI has used Tekla software for a number of years, but the CoR project was our first experience fully collaborating with an Architectural & Engineering Firm who incorporated Tekla within their design & submittal review processes. We’re certain the use of Tekla In-Model Review as well as day-to-day model sharing with Bimsight streamlined the project coordination & documentation and we hope the information within the attached model and other documents illustrate the level of detail that can be achieved, even on such a complex structure. The project is a new sanctuary addition of approximately 355,000 s.f., an addition to the existing Church of the Resurrection campus in Leawood, KS. The structure is an extremely geometrically complex conventional structural steel frame consisting of nearly 1,800 tons of steel as well as the incorporation of a small bar joist roof area. Bar joists totaled a modest 20 tons, and the many types of composite floor and roof decking amounted to 1,937 squares. The structure is also made up of cast in place concrete as well as precast concrete structural systems. Our responsibilities on the project also included all miscellaneous & ornamental metals scopes of work
