The newly published Tekla software versions have arrived, offering faster 3D modeling process, better drawing production and more control over changes.
Tekla Structures 2018 brings faster 3D modeling processes from conceptual design to production as well as improved control over project changes. There are also numerous improvements in drawings which includes ways for reviewing and adding drawing content faster.
Tekla Structural Designer 2018 introduces numerous enhancements that provide engineers with a competitive edge and consolidated design. These features include sequential loading analysis (iterative cracked section) for concrete slabs, steel beam web opening design and built-up plated beam design.
Tekla Tedds 2018 includes a brand new, fully flexible reinforced concrete pile cap design as well as several other upgrades and enhancements to meet your daily demand. The batch design module has been improved and added to the library of calculations allowing you to perform several designs for different conditions with the click of a button.
We have just released the Tekla Developer Center, the new one-stop-hub for all Tekla Open API content. With Tekla Open API, you can customize Tekla Structures functionality to fit your project by integrating 3rd party applications to the Tekla Structures modeling environment.
If you are looking for API references, programming guides, exercises or code examples, Tekla Developer Center is your go-to place. In addition, the community is there to help solve your questions, share best practices, report bugs and enables contribution to open source projects.
The Olympic Gangneung Ice Arena, the venue for figure skating and short track in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, showcases optimizing the design and construction process of the complex steel structure. During the project, the team at Dongbu Steel benefited from the advantages of improved transparency and efficiency as well as accurate 3D data by avoiding errors throughout the entire process.
Result: two underground levels and four stories above ground, gross area of 32,424 square meters and 12,000 seats, and an exterior that has been described as a combination of the beauty of figure skating and the dynamics of short track.
The roof of the arena gets its form from complicated steel pipe trusses, fabricated and constructed by Dongbu Steel. They chose Tekla Structures for modeling complex joints up to fabrication-ready LOD 400.
“Tekla Structures makes it possible to review meticulously prior to steel fabrication and construction based on rich information,” says Byoung-ho Doh, Senior Manager at Dongbu Steel. “We are planning for construction simulation in the scheduled future project by utilizing Trimble’s excellent technology.”
The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union (EU) will be effective on May 25th 2018. GDPR applies to all who process personal data of European citizens, no matter from which country the business is originated, and also if personal data is moved outside the EU.
As Trimble is a global company, more or less all of our businesses are touched by GDPR. We take the privacy of our customers, their customers and end-users seriously, so we started preparations for GDPR compliance already in 2016.

For Dimension Fabricators, moving from 2D to 3D was a breeze with Tekla Structures. Introducing the software has minimized costly surprises and rework, as well as allowed the team to visualize steel components.
According to Dan Stevens, the company’s Assembled Products Manager, Dimension Fabricators have saved thousands of dollars and plenty of time after moving from 2D to 3D.
“The company I worked for previously used Tekla Structures to model concrete with great results, so I was familiar with what it could do,” he says. “I thought, if we can deliver on projects and provide 3D models of rebar as an additional product to our customers, we’re killing two birds with one stone. Tekla Structures would not only speed up the detailing process, but also result in a better product for our customers.”
Tekla Structures has also paid off in productivity gains and accuracy by streamlining project management and improving the flow of information between detailers and fabricators.
