Main office atrium stairs and balustrade to levels 1 to 7 comprising extensive strengthening to the 1st floor, feature steel stair flights and monolithic balustrade throughout with structural glass balustrade/edge protection to all floors.Â
Project for us ran from Early 2017 to July 2018. TDS were enlisted by a regular fabricator we work for to carry out all drawing work. Due to the design of these items there was an increased input between the engineer / architect and main contractor with our specialist design team.
What were the challenges and what made the project successful.
When we launched the contract, the end user was going to be ‘New Look’ but at the end of 2017, the job was put on hold. It transpired that Google had bought the lease from New Look and as of 2018, they were to be the new tenant. Luckily, we were able to salvage all items that had been manufactured at the time and luckily, Google accepted the architects concept regarding the stairs appearance etc. We had also developed staircases for the main reception and access to a mezzanine level, but these two elements have been put on hold until 2019.
What benefits utilizing BIM and Tekla Software brought to the project.
By using Tekla, Tekla BIMsight and its ability to create IFC's, 3D pdf's, screenshots etc we could easily communicate the intricate details to all members of the design team quickly and easily.Â
The project in numbers.
Stairs consisted of 59 ton of steel, 4 ton of aluminium trims / flashings and 11 ton of glass balustrade.
