The challenging and difficult site is located at the foot of Gilmerton Road, Liberton known as Goods Corner and was part of old village of Nether Liberton.
In 2016 a planning application was approved by Edinburgh City Councillors for a development to contain student accommodation with 107 studio beds housed in visually distinct blocks that allow glimpses between them of the centrally located B Listed Cottages. DACS worked with Meldrum Construction to provide a design that delivered a light steel frame load bearing structure that resulted in producing manufacturing packages that could be issued to a supplier of choice ‘ Frameclad', along with Installation drawings to form the Student Residence.
The unique four storey building comprises of three blocks that are all linked and to the rear is the listed 'cottage' building that has been rebuilt using light steel frame and hot rolled to form the structure with the existing stone removed and numbered to be replaced as it was originally constructed. The project is to be completed by the Autumn of 2018
