Footbridge linking transportation from the A27 to the Brighton Amex Footbal Stadium. Detailed Drawing Ltd produced the Model and Fabrication Drawings and Four-Tees Engineers Ltd produced the Fabrication and erected the bridge.
What were the challenges and made the project succesful?
The Footbridge was curved, straight and also on an incline. Setting out the curves required trigonometry calculations to 11 decimal places. I used round bar to set out most of the points for the bridge components. The bridge was predominately in three parts with movement joints between the sections. I had to plan how I was going to issue the Material and produce the fabrication drawings for the project as due to the curved parts of the bridge. The components needed to be cut from Flat sheet plate. I decided that the best way to achieve this was to produce single assemblies for each part and use General Arrangement Drawings to assemble the sections. I used a number of models to set out different sections of the bridge and assembled them all in the final model. The sections of the Bridge was filled with concrete before it was erected on site.
Benefits of using BIM and Tekla Structures?
The benefit of using Tekla Structures for this project made the ordering of the curved sheet plate achievable. Using the create surface tool allowed me to create the curved plate at the required angle and explode it for flattening.
