Complex hybrid structural frame for luxury villa development
Overlooking the Straits of Gibraltar, on a historically sensitive site, Buena Vista Park Villas is a private luxury development built in three phases. Design and engineering consultancy, Design Engine was employed to undertake the structural design and detailing of the hybrid hot rolled and cold rolled structure.
Using Tekla and Tekla Structural Designer, Design Engine was able to deliver a complex hybrid structural frame to create a chassis concept allowing for a robust and flexible core structural design. This provided the buyer and design team with a huge amount of customisation and input into the design process without compromises on program.
Design Engine was able to co-ordinate both detailing and structural engineering. Full design team co-ordination was required with consideration to local topography, lighting, technology and all the usual M&E applications. Interoperability was a key factor in delivering a fully co-ordinated design.
To showcase this prestigious project to both the design team stakeholders as well as buyers, full schedules, shop drawings, assemblies and general arrangements, as well as augmented reality exports, have been utilised.
Facilitating gravity defying cantilevers
Through clever detailing and appropriate material choice, large gravity defying cantilevers were possible. This is evident in both the hanging stair arrangements and floating corners and projections.
Tekla has played a large part in delivering this project in line with our core principles of simplicity, affordability, quality and delivery. It also ensures we deliver exceptional service, high quality and innovating solutions at all times.
