Welcome to the UK Tekla Awards 2017

The well established Tekla Awards showcase the hard work and innovation that goes into using software the solve engineering challenges, working collaboratively and delivering better outcomes for all involved. The awards focus on projects of all shapes and sizes which have used Tekla Structures as part of the process for designing and 3D modelling a structure or where the use of Tekla software and BIM have aided collaboration and the digital construction process.

So if you have used Tekla Structures on a project, however large or small, that you think illustrates the benefits of collaborative workflows and model usage, or a project you are proud to have worked on, then choose the best category to enter.

Entering the Tekla Awards can be beneficial for business in many ways:

It is free to enter the UK Tekla Awards 2017

Entry is through an online form and you can enter more than one project but, only one project per category.

This is your only opportunity to promote or sell the project to the judges, so think about what you want to say before you start. What is unique or innovative about the project? Why did it work well? How did you company or the project team benefit from the model?

The entry form asks for:

  • A company description
  • A project description

- information about the project and other companies you collaborated with.
- the benefits of using Tekla software such as reduced costs, time saving, interoperability, planning and scheduling.
- other software used (sketch-up, VICO, laser scanning, etc) and interoperability.

  • The challenges that made the project successful
  • The benefits of using BIM and Tekla Structures

You will also need to supply a package of material from Tekla Structures using Dropbox or similar.

  • The .db1 and profile database file of the Tekla model (model folder)
  • Full Tekla BIMsight model (.tbp) including bolts, reinforcement and reference files
  • Snapshots of the model (min. 3 image files such as .png featuring the whole model and relevant details)
  • We also recommend you to highlight the best parts of your project by saving them as snapshots in the Tekla BIMsight project.
  • Sample drawings of the projects (2-3 PDF files)
  • Photographs (min. 1 image file) or architect impressions of the project
  • Company logo(s) of all companies participating the project
  • Virtual Tour - click here to access the virtual tour extension should you wish to create navigations in your model.

- Set the default settings to a 3 second delay, 3 second transition and create no more than 15 snapshots
- Save the Virtual Tour file as a .vtr file extension and upload it into the entry form

Please include all the requested information as it strengthens your entry and allows projects to be judged using the same level of detail. The more information you provide, the better your chances of winning!

The Tekla Awards have seven categories. One prize is awarded to each category and the final winner of each category will be judged by a panel of leading industry experts from both Trimble and the wider industry. Projects will be judged on their individual merit and we are looking for examples of collaborative workflows and model based processes to support your entry. You can submit one entry per category.

There will be an additional winner decided by public vote. Voting is open to the public and can be promoted by the competing company. Only one vote per project per person will be counted.

  • The UK awards will be open for entry submission between 13th March - 19th May*
  • Voting is open to the public between 29th May - 16th June*
  • The judging panel will sit during June*
  • The winners will be announced early July*
  • The winners of the UK Tekla Awards 2017 will be submitted to the Global Tekla Awards 2018

Judges will be looking for things like:

Collaboration

  • How collaboration and co-ordination were used and demonstrated on the project.
  • Multiple phases of the model life cycle (Design, Build, Operate).
  • The number of participants using Tekla or other reference models.
  • Use of open BIM and the benefits of the reference model from an open BIM perspective.

Innovative use of Tekla software

  • The basics covered – drawings, BoM, etc.
  • What challenges were faced and how they were overcome.
  • New ways of working.

Constructability

  • Level of detail.
  • Multimaterial modelling and useage.
  • Complexity – of the geometry of the structure and the combined complexity and level of detail of the modelling.

“Cool” factor

  • Impressive or quirky structures.

By entering a model to the competition, you give permission to Trimble to use the model and any images for marketing and sales demonstration purposes.

Trimble has the right to reject a model from the competition if any of the required material is missing or if it is submitted after the deadline.

If there is anything contained within the file folder that you'd prefer not to send to us, for example contract documentation, please remove it.
