Giving support to the station
London Bridge Station currently sees over 100,000 passengers pass through every weekday. This number is expected to almost double by the end of the decade. The Thameslink Programme will see London Bridge Station completely redeveloped, providing a much larger concourse underneath the new platforms which will be the size of the Wembley football pitch. London Bridge will have the biggest station concourse in the UK and will be fully accessible with lifts and escalators taking passengers to every platform. It will be a lighter and brighter station. The project involves a total of 24 columns to be installed into London Bridge Station to support the line decks.
Predictive powers of rebar modelling
The Tekla model has been invaluable in modelling the column and crosshead to allow us to check for clash and predict problems before any reinforcing bars arrives on the construction site. The complex fabrication and assembly of the column and crosshead cages were only made possible by the use of Tekla BIMsight in conjunction with the drawing production abilities. The fabrication workshop could refer at any time to the model to solve any problems with fixing of the rebar's and to gain a better understanding how to manufacture and assemble the complex cages ensuring that any issues that arose could be dealt with efficiently.
