William Hare reach Level 2 BIM with the help from Trimble
Used to drive BIM operations globally, steelwork and structural engineering contractor William Hare Group has been using Tekla Structures from Trimble for nearly two decades – helping the company to attain a long history of achievements including formal certification to BIM Level 2.
The William Hare Group provides leading engineered steel solutions to some of the world’s most innovative construction projects, including London’s landmark Walkie Talkie building. The company is also the first Tier 2 contractor in the supply chain to gain BIM Level 2 certification.
By integrating Tekla software into BIM operations, William Hare Group has been able to deliver schemes economically using lean fabrication and erection processes to achieve shorter lead times and high quality standards.
Paul Lovatt, Engineering Manager at William Hare Group, commented: “We have been using Tekla Structures for the best part of 20 years and it is a main component of our process. In fact, we have been using BIM processes long before the term BIM was even invented”.
David Hodgkiss OBE, William Hare Group CEO, stated: “As a business we have been utilising BIM for a number of years, so we are pleased to have been officially certified to Level 2. We are committed to being a world leader in the use of BIM and using this approach to the maximum possible extent to ensure optimum project delivery for our clients.”
The fact that all project information is recreated in an actual 3D model, rather than a static drawing, makes it easier for companies to adapt to changes in design, highlight any possible errors and avoid potential difficulties in the overall build.
Capable of producing highly detailed schedules and drawings, combined with the ability to build and visualise large quantities of material precisely, Tekla software is ideal for projects that require accurate forecasting and collaborative project understanding.
In December 2015, William Hare Group successfully completed the external audit to confirm that they satisfy the requirements of BIM Level 2 and PAS 1192-2:2013.
