MERU TUMPANG SOLAS GEDONG EKADASA DEWATA - INDONESIA

  • Meru Tumpang Solas Gedong Eka Dasa Dewasa building is a development of Bali traditional building which combine the concept of Meru Tumpang Solas with modern modification on the raw materials. Meru Tumpang Solas is a philosophy of perfection to worship to the Almighty God as the creator of the universe. The building roof level has eleven levels. Every each of the levels has its own meaning as a counterweight to life. The material from this building represent the element of Bhuana Agung (universe) and Bhuana Alit (universe that is in every human being) which are related to teaching of Hinduism and philosophy of Hinduism.

Meru has its own rules that cannot be changed. This is because the building related to the worship of The Almighty God. However, in this modern era the main material of the Meru which is wood is getting hard to find considering the wood used is a particular type that is specific to the sacred building. Because of this, by the modern era, the use of wood is replaced by a modern material such as light steel on column and roof structure. But some of the traditional material still in use, such as fibers, red bricks, etc.

Designing begin first using AutoCad program to make the site plan, size of building, building looks, and also the detail. After that, the design is visualized to 3D Model using the Tekla program. The structure design was created using the Tekla program because it will increase work productivity of each team member. If there is something wrong on the detail, every each of member of the group can see the mistake and fix it. The materials selection on Tekla are varies to choose from if using the Tekla program that cooperate with college. However, it will take a lot of time.

Tekla connects one design to another as a unity that integrates to the BIM (Building Information Modeling) system which make the creator and the executioner are bound together. This project represents the Bali identity, in other words we try to introduce the other side of Bali. Guidance from our college lecturers about the design and structure are simply represent the true meaning of this Meru Tumpang Solas.

In the future, we hope that the other building with Bali architecture can be created using the Tekla program so that the Bali’s buildings which are famous for the details can be created as exact as the real one.
