NEWS: Trimble Equips IBS Base with Tekla Precast Technology to Develop Country Garden’s Forest City
- Developer of Forest City to utilize Tekla solutions by Trimble for precast to increase productivity, efficiency and level of service at its Industrialised Building System (IBS) base
- Move supports Government’s push to modernize the construction industry – advocating use of technology in creating a more efficient, productive industry
Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA, 9 January 2018 – Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd’s (CGPV), developer of the upcoming Forest City township in Johor, has chosen Trimble Malaysia to equip its Industrialized Building System (IBS) base with technology solutions aimed at increasing productivity, efficiency and level of service at the precast plant.
CGPV’s IBS base, which was announced back in August, is said to be the largest of its kind in the world when completed. Trimble’s technology solutions will provide essential fabrication data for the ERP system that runs the IBS base and integration with Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes, among others. Future implementation will streamline operational flow at the factories – from design phase to fabrication and downstream quality assurance/quality control inspection – thus optimizing the entire supply chain workflow.
Trimble will also provide customized training to CGPV’s design team and on data integration with the ERP system.
“We are proud to partner Country Garden and provide the solutions they need to accelerate productivity and efficiency. With the use of the constructible Tekla model as the source of information, Country Garden is able to streamline their workflows, improve communication and have the same consistent information to utilize for creation of fabrication drawings, material reports and production data to be used downstream, thus reducing the chances of error and as a result, waste of time and effort,” said Jari Heino, General Manager of Trimble’s Structures Division. “The construction sector is crucial to the economic growth of a country. We are committed to support the construction industry in Malaysia to realize a more efficient, productive and modernized way of working. Partnerships – both private and public – are key to achieving this; we are delighted to play our part in it.”
“As a developer of a project that takes at least two decades to complete, CGPV emphasizes on creating safer and sustainable construction environment. Compared to the conventional methods, IBS standardizes design, while digitizing, automating and modernizing the process of construction, building parts of production to save time,” added Dr. Yu Runze, Chief Strategic Officer, Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd.
Construction industry key to economic growth of the country
The construction industry is one of nation’s fastest growing industries, recording double-digit growth over the last few years. A staggering average growth of 11% during the 10th Malaysia Plan (2011-2015) surpassed the performance of other economic sectors in the country while in 2017, the Malaysian construction industry was expected to grow by 8% in volume to RM170 billion. In 2016, the sector grew by 7.4% to RM166.4 billion – a rise from RM140 billion in 2015. The construction industry will contribute 5.5% to the nation’s GDP by 2020 according to forecasts.
Underpinning the nation’s economic growth is the construction industry, whereby technology concepts such as IBS and BIM will be the cornerstone of the modernization needed to boost further progress. The government is serious about driving the transformation – having set on enforcing BIM for construction of public projects above RM100 million by 2019. The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) also recently launching the RM3 million myBIM Centre – the nation’s first one-stop resource centre to promote and increase use of BIM among construction players. BIM software and proficiency training programmes will be offered at the Centre, with the aim of increasing the 1,300 BIM personnel who have been trained by CIDB to-date.
The prospects for Malaysia’s construction industry remains bright, spurred by a list of mega infrastructure projects such as the LRT/MRT lines and highways including the Pan Borneo Highway and the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH). Other upcoming projects include the Tun Razak Exchange project, the 118-storey skyscraper development Warisan Merdeka and the affordable housing projects under the PR1MA initiative, all of which will benefit from the implementation of BIM in the course of the projects. The country has been using BIM in the building of large-scale projects like National Cancer Institute in Putrajaya, MATRADE International Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Administration Complex in Shah Alam.
