Dr Steven Wong
Senior Technical Consultant, Structures Division

Dr Steven Wong graduated from the Swinburne University of Technology with a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering with a dissertation on Behaviour of Piles Subject to Detrimental Tidal-induced Riverbank Soil Movements.

 

He has also published some conference and journal papers such as “Centrifuge Model Study of Pile Subjected to Tidal Induced Soil movement” and “Behavior of MH Silts with varying plasticity indices”. Having more than 8 years of  experience in consultancy and software development, he has been involved in civil, structural and geotechnical design of residential, commercial and hospital projects.

 

Dr Steven is now with Trimble’s Structures Division as Senior Technical Consultant, helping engineers adopt Tekla Structural Designer (TSD).

Mohd Fazly Omar
Technical Consultant

After graduating in 2008 with a degree in Civil &  Environmental Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Fazly started his professional engineering career with local consultants designing government and private projects.

 

In 2015, he joined Tekla as a Technical Consultant and supports users of Tekla engineering software, from organizing and conducting training to

providing technical consultancy to engineers.

 

Fazly specialises in Tekla 2D and 3D analysis & design software including input of code compliance requirements in development of software.

 

He has an extensive experience in training and project consultancy through constant communication and cooperation with end users, engineers and professional engineers.

Wee Eng Yau

Wee has been in the civil & structural field for 18 years, specialising in technology solutions to improve project delivery. He began his career as an engineer in the civil and structural, multi disciplinary consultancy. He also had experience in steel fabrication industry from working on oil and gas projects.

He then moved into software sales and management serving a range of building and construction professionals such as architects, engineers, constructors and owners/operators.

With his extensive leadership experience, Wee is currently holding the position as the regional business manager for Tekla Malaysia. He is responsible for overseeing the sales and operations of the regional office, while making sure that Tekla users are well served.

In 1996, Wee graduated with a BEng (Hons) Civil & Structural Engineering from University of Hertfordshire and in 2003, he completed his MBA at Nottingham University.

 

Dr Daniel Looi  

IEM's Seismic Committee/

Lecturer of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing & Science, Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak campus).

Dr. Daniel Looi holds a PhD from the University of Hong Kong, specialises in the field of earthquake engineering, with particular interest in the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete structures in low-to-moderate seismicity region.

 

He is enthused in producing impactful engineering research to help practitioners to apply them to improve current structural design. He is a key contributor to the development of the National Annex to Eurocode 8 on the seismic design of building structures for Malaysia. His research in concrete structures was recognised by the HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Researcher/Engineer (2015).

 

He maintains close international collaborations with researchers from Australia, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia in research publications. He serves as a reviewer in various international journals such as Engineering Structures, Thin-walled Structures, Earthquakes and Structures and Advances in Structural Engineering.

 

He is a frequent speaker in many IEM seminars, authored and co-authored seismic related articles in IEM Jurutera Bulletin over the years since 2011.

 

Prior to his PhD study, he worked as a structural application engineer in a multi-national company, specialised in structural analysis and design computation for buildings and plant industry, where he had in-depth interactions with practicing engineers to tackle actual problems arise in design offices. He was trained by the late Ir. MC Hee in his early career as a structural engineer.

 

He is an alumnus of the Civil Engineering Department, University of Malaya, graduated in 2006.

 

Dr. Daniel Looi is now a lecturer of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing & Science, Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak campus).
