Extension and rebfurbishment for the University House

The new proposed extension and refurbishment will provide the business school with an additional 140-150 academic and professional services office spaces, as well as a number of high-quality meeting rooms and social spaces for staff, the majority of which are proposed as single person academic offices.

This will allow the school to consolidate all of its non-teaching activity on one site, thus maximising operational efficiencies in terms of how it uses its estate whilst placing and re-establishing University House as the heart and focus of the school.

What were the challenges and what made the project successful

T3 were appointed to carry out the design and detailing of the multi-storey new teaching block comprising traditionally reinforced slabs, beams, columns and walls together with very large spanning prestressed slabs. Hidden connectors and bare concrete finishes to all internal walls and columns were the choice of the architect and presented their own difficulties. By using BIM modelling software Tekla, T3 were able to visualise all elements, connections, clash free reinforcement with embedded items such as lifters and ultimately provide our client with a complete, fully integrated BIM model.
