About the project

Acque Bresciane srl is a company specialized in water management and analysis. “It deals with the management of the Integrated Water Service for 98 municipalities in the Province of Brescia, for a total of 269 segments. The laboratory carries out chemical and microbiological analyzes on a daily basis, which are essential for managing to implement timely interventions on water quality. The constant analytical monitoring also constitutes the basis for verifying the quality of the water in compliance with the mandatory regulations".

The design of the spaces of the new laboratories follows the idea of ergonomics and safety for workers which will allow them to carry out analytical activities in a safe and optimal way, in accordance with operational flows.

The laboratory activities mainly concern the control:
• water intended for human consumption at sources, treatment plants and distribution networks;
• waste water from sewerage networks and purification plants;
• activated sludge and dehydrated sludge from purifiers;
• management of analytical data and its archive.

The new building containing the laboratories has been identified as a regular quadrilateral in which the laboratory rooms and part of the offices are distributed on the sides of a central corridor, on the ground floor of the building itself.

The list of functions that must be allocated in the building are as follows:
Sample acceptance area;• Virology;• Washing laboratories and preparation of microbiological analysis;• Analysis of drinking water and wastewater and sludge;• Inorganic preparation of drinking water (basic analysis);• Wastewater laboratories;• Ion chromatography;• Metal preparations;• TOC;• Instrumental mass spectrometry and gas chromatography laboratories;• Organic analysis and pesticide laboratories;• Waste analysis room;• Sludge analysis room;• Support rooms (warehouse and laboratory waste management); • Bottle washing and “ultra pure” water production; • Data processing office.

The project in its "high" functional vocation is conceived as a "temple of science at the service of the community".

The meaning of this statement is to be understood in the fact that the project is thought of as a place where, through the application of the scientific method, an asset of primary importance such as water which is the basis of life and public health is protected .

Water is the primary good par excellence and we will not dwell further on its importance. What is important here is to understand how and with what reasoning and design references the theme and element of water were placed at the center of the entire project.
