The project is a 5-storey, 84,000 square foot employee center known as "The Commons". Across the project's central green space, the Commons has a curving footprint, housing uses such as a commissary, a large special events theatre, two screening rooms, and space for events with up to 1,000 attendees.
NBCUniversal employee center involves structures that comprised of floor framings, penthouse floor, roof mechanical framing, elevator guide rail, screen wall structures and veil structures. The scope of work required SANRIA to create 3D structural steel model including all main, embeds, and miscellaneous steel elements using Tekla Structures and to extract all drawings and reports to facilitate the construction of the steel structure.
SANRIA created models and drawings as per AISC, AWS and OSHA standards based on structural and architectural design drawings. The project deliverables included erection drawings, fabrication drawings, bolt drawings, single part drawings, and generated reports like ABM, NC files, laser file, XML file, bolt list, DXF file. The team also validated as-built anchor location and provided layouts for the locations where anchor bolts were out of tolerance.
The project consists of various connections viz.,
- Non-frame moment connections
- Braced frame beam connections
- Step in slab connections
- Radial bent plates and bent plate framing at elevator structure
- Man-lift connections
- Curtain wall coordination
- Veil structures
- Elevator’s connections
Benefits of using Tekla
- Project manifested numerous design changes at various phases, these amendments were updated on priority, and deliverables were submitted at the earliest by implementing the necessary changes to retain the pleasant project submittal.
- GA drawings were submitted at the intermediate phase to support the layout visualization, this reduced the project lead time.
- Missing information and design clarification notes were detailed along the proposed sketch and attached to the RFI. These supportive documents assisted the customer to deliver a swift and immaculate response.
- Adequate proposals with regards to elevator, curtain wall and veil coordination frames ensured significant savings reducing project lead time.
- Outstanding savings with regards to the time and cost due to minimal shop questions.
- Effective coordination with structural team enhanced the quality of the product.
