Multipurpose sports hall in Tatabánya

E-Steel Mérnöki Kft. has been commissioned for this project by CÉH zRt. for the execution design phase and ARC-S engineering & design kft for the factory design phase. The project is a sports hall currently under construction in Tatabánya, Hungary. E-Steel Mérnöki Kft.’s task was the structural and factory design of the “pebble” shaped outer shell support structure, CÉH zRt. performed the design tasks of all the other disciplines and provided general structural design supervision and coordination.

The volume and the complexity of the project made it clear at the beginning that we could only handle it using a parametric design approach. During the project, we used Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper for constructing the parametric model. First, we generated the Tekla Structures model directly from the parametric model, then detailed it further.

We used the Open BIM system in the design of the building. Models from different disciplines were made using Archicad, Revit, and Tekla software. The federated model and clash detection analysis were created with Navisworks software. The Common Data Environment (CDE) was SharePoint. Data exchange between disciplines took place in IFC format.

The complex geometry made it necessary to implement special measures to support the factory assembly, for example, different cuts and markings on the profiles to help position the inclined gusset plates. The parametric model created during the execution design phase was necessary to model these unique details with maximal precision and speed.
