CKTCH – a new building for organ transplant patients

The project of the new construction of the hospital building "CKTCH - construction of a new building for patients after organ transplants", located in the Brno hospital, is completely designed with the help of BIM tools. The client, in the form of the "Centre of Cardiovascular and Transplantation Surgery", chose an experienced general designer with hospital buildings "LT PROJEKT a.s." for the architectural design. The partner of the construction part project is the company "A+Z project team, s.r.o.", which performed static calculations.

The new building, measuring 113 m by 72.5 m with a total height of 37 m, is designed as a nine-story building with a volume of 10,352 m3 of concrete and 2,834 tons of reinforcement. The building is divided into two lower floors, which are used for car parking and the upper floor, which is used for patients. The entire structure is designed as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure reinforced with two cores, containing staircases, elevator shafts and ventilation chimneys. The remaining parts of the supporting structure are made up of columns with ceiling slabs, which are lined around the perimeter with purlins. The entire structure is divided in both directions into three separate expansion units. For better static security, the columns are shaped like the letter "T" around the perimeter and connect to the perimeter beams. The foundation of the building is based on a system of piles divided into five types, which are slidably separated from the overall structure by the underlying concrete, which forms a sliding plate. The most complicated part of the whole project was the design of the posts and ceiling boards. Three types of columns (circular, oval and square), each with two floors with a changing cross-section in several variants of profiles, including reinforcement.

Even during the design of the structure itself, attention was paid to the smallest details in the form of skid strips at the columns, shear spikes in the walls, break-out strips at the landings and sound-acoustic cushioning pads at the stair arms. In total, more than 6,700 pieces of these elements were used.
On the first and second above-ground floors, there is a designer-rounded three-armed staircase, which creates an atypical passage through the ceiling structure. On the roof, a steel structure forms the design part of the roof shell. The entire structure has a regular rectangular character, with a changing plan shape along the entire height. The most challenging part of the design was the ramps, which were rounded at the end.
