ABOUT SGB AL QUEBEISI
SGB is a formwork and scaffolding company based in the UAE and consists of Hunnebeck, Aluma, and SGB. SGB also has a special Steel Forms department who were responsible for the designing of the entire Pier Head and Pier Shafts for the bridges and the metro projects.
THE PROJECT
SGB's scope in the project was to design, fabricate and supply steel shutters for casting the pier heads on the Dubai EXPO 2020 metro expansion. As timeframes were tight, The shutters were designed to be self-supporting with no additional support coming from the ground. This ensured the pier heads could be cast with high productivity with no stripping and re-erecting of support structures.
Besides this, SGB also supplied Formwork for the metro stations. SGB supported the contractor to cast columns, walls, and slabs.

CHALLENGE AND SUCCESS FACTOR
Â
The main challenge to our scope of works was the extremely tight construction schedule required by the site teams. Other challenges were due to the variable construction heights required on the project. SGB's concept of a friction ring support with no additional shoring to the ground, coupled with the ability of the Tekla structures software to rapidly prepare the required fabrication drawings ensured that all the elements from design, fabrication and site operations were progressive and completed with the allocated time constraints.
Â
WHY TEKLA
Â
Prior to using the Tekla structures software, all our fabrication drawings historically were prepared to utilize AutoCAD software. The preparation of fabrication drawings was time-consuming and unproductive. Our new Tekla Software ensured that a full model of the assembly could be easily generated. This model would then be checked for clashes or mistakes. Once the final model was prepared, All fabrication drawings were produced seamlessly and passed to our internal fabrication facility. Tekla Structures ensured we were ahead of the game in submitting the fabrication drawings early which resulted in the project being kept well on track and within the critical path.
