Tekla North America BIM Awards 2011 winners

BIM: Sutter Alta Bates Patient Care Pavilion, USA, by DPR and IPD Team

"This project represented the category to the fullest by showcasing the complexity of the project," said the jury. "Subsurface conditions, zero lot lines, connections to existing buildings and hybrid shear wall designs turned the project into a multiple trade collaboration very quickly. Tekla assisted in innovative work processes with the partnership with Trimble and also with the seismic design considerations. Concrete: Galeria 360, Dominican Republic by CCM (Contratistas Civiles y Mecánicos, S. A.)

"CCM said it best when they described the team; it included disciplines like steel structure, cast in place concrete, precast concrete and tilt-up. Besides having all these disciplines on the project, all of them interact and use connections and assemblies of tilt-up with the steel structure, tilt-up with cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated concrete with steel, where most of the connections were developed by the detailer team," said the jury.

Steel: Retractable Roof of the New Marlins Ballpark, USA by InteliBuild

"Based on model complexity and the geometry involved, this project has it. It’s a massive model with thousands of components and unique connections – it would be hard to see how something like this can be done efficiently without using BIM. It’s a testament to the unquestionable value of 3D modeling. BIM puts this kind of complex project in the hands of mere mortals and enables them to make it a success," said the jury.
