Detention center and law enforcement facility

The Douglas County Adult Detention and Law Enforcement Center in Douglasville, GA, is a new 1,448-bed 500,000 square foot facility. The project is composed in a midrise approach with three main areas including a four-story law enforcement center, four-story housing, and three-story support building. There is also a detached visitation building and dormitory.

Aggressive schedule makes project challenging

The most challenging step in the process for the submitting concrete construction company is that they are self performing all aspects of the concrete construction and all three areas are being built simultaneously with an aggressive schedule. The last of the three structures will top out in mid August. All three buildings have very different structural designs. The housing building is box and beam with post-tensioned beams and slab tendons. The law enforcement center requires wide modular steel pan formed slab and beams with post-tensioned beams only. The support building has a combination of wide modular pans and standard 30 wide" metal pan forms making the slab, beams and joists. It is also reinforced with post-tensioned beams only.
