Tekla and Asta collaborate to enhance BIM project scheduling

20 February 2011
Asta DevelopmentTekla and Asta Development are working together to improve interoperability and enhance information flow between Tekla Structures and Asta Powerproject software. Creating a seamless means of data transfer between the two solutions will enable main contractors and their steel and concrete sub-contractors to more efficiently manage projects by combining data from the as-built Tekla model with comprehensive Asta Powerproject schedule information.

Whilst users of each software solution can already exchange information, Asta and Tekla are now developing a bi-directional link which will enable task and schedule information to be brought from Asta Powerproject into Tekla Structures to visualise and manage activity progress in the 3D model. Users will be able to more effectively manage the supply chain, identify schedule and constructability issues, obtain accurate quantities for QTO and create 4D visualisations in a highly detailed model environment. Conversely, structural information can be transferred from the Tekla model into Asta Powerproject, allowing users to create an accurate and comprehensive schedule that maintains an association with model objects, thereby facilitating collaboration between clients throughout the supply chain.

Andrew Bellerby, Managing Director of Tekla UK“We are delighted to be able to announce our partnership with Asta Development,” says Andrew Bellerby, Managing Director of Tekla UK. “This improved interoperability will greatly increase the potential of both software solutions and enable our customers to deliver construction projects on time and under budget with greater control and reduced waste. The industry is becoming increasingly aware of the huge benefits associated with BIM as a process and soon it will become a requirement on many different types of projects.”

Paul Bamforth, Managing Director of Asta Development“We are seeing a growing interest from our customers for using 4D visualisation to enhance their project management capability and are very pleased to be partnering with Tekla,” says Paul Bamforth, Managing Director of Asta Development. “We are already working with Tekla on a project with Bell & Webster, a company within the Eleco Group, which combines their visualisation tool with our project management software to show some very impressive results and look forward to expanding our collaboration to the benefit of mutual customers in the future.”

Both Tekla and Asta Development will be exhibiting at Ecobuild (www.ecobuild.co.uk) on 1-3rd March so for more information visit Tekla at stand N1972 or Asta Development on the Eleco stand N660.

About Tekla
Tekla’s ambition is to multiply customers' potential to think and achieve big. Tekla BIM (Building Information Modelling) software provide an accurate, detailed, and data-rich 3D environment that can be shared by contractors, structural engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, as well as concrete detailers and manufacturers.

The highly detailed as-built structural models created, combined and distributed with Tekla BIM software enable the highest level of constructability and production control. Centralizing building information into the model allows for more collaborative and integrated project management and delivery. This translates into increased productivity and elimination of waste, thus making construction and buildings more sustainable.
