BIM Awards competition showcased exemplary projects around the world

25 January 2010

The first Tekla Global BIM Awards competition was arranged in the end of 2009. It gathered and showcased the building information models and descriptions of more than 40 of the most exemplary construction projects around the world.

Entries to the Global BIM Awards competition were the winners of regional Tekla model competitions held by Tekla area offices and resellers during 2009. The competition was divided into three categories: BIM, steel, as well as concrete and other projects.

The winners are: Expo 2010 Finland Pavilion Kirnu modelled by Lemcon (China) Co. Ltd. (Best BIM Project); Aldar HQ modeled by William Hare (Best Steel Project, UAE); Texas Children's Hospital modelled by Coreslab Structures (Best Concrete Project, US). The Crusell Bridge modelled by WSP Finland Oy was awarded a special recognition, and Capital Gate Tower modelled by Eversendai (UAE) won the open web vote. These companies will be rewarded locally by Tekla area offices during the spring 2010.

The winners of the competition were chosen by a jury of leading BIM experts in the world: Professor Charles Eastman of Georgia Institute of Technology, and Vice Chair of buildingSMART Korea Inhan Kim; Tekla was represented by CEO Ari Kohonen and Executive Vice President Risto Räty.

“Tekla users are able to manage details of design, fabrication and construction that show the whole field of building and construction what is possible to achieve by building information modelling,” said Chuck Eastman. “The Crusell Bridge is one of several beautiful examples of a complex engineering project and of the use of BIM-related control systems for managing the design and construction.”

More information about the competition, the winners and other entries is available at the campaign page.

Tekla Structures
Tekla's technology creates new opportunities for the construction industry. Tekla Structures, the most advanced BIM (Building Information Modelling) software on the market, provides an accurate, dynamic, and data-rich 3D environment that can be shared by contractors, structural engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, as well as concrete detailers and manufacturers. The highly detailed as-built structural models created in Tekla Structures enable the highest level of constructability and production control. Centralising model and non-model based data into the model allows for more collaborative and integrated project management and delivery. This translates into increased productivity, elimination of waste, and an enhanced value for structural modelling. More information at www.teklastructures.com
