Congratulations to the winners of the Tekla UK Model Competition 2009! This year's competition sported some excellent entries and the voting was as close as ever. The awards allow us to celebrate both the versatility of Tekla Structures and express appreciation toward our customers work. Tekla Structures plays a great role in creating many of the complex structures seen and admired every day around the United Kingdom and indeed the world.

This year
Ove Arup took the award for the over 150 tonne category with their model entry for The Pinnacle Tower, also known as Bishopgate Tower. A new generation of tall urban buildings in the financial district of London, the Bishopgate Tower will be the highest skyscraper in the area. Designed to suprise and delight, an outstanding modern piece of architecture will stand 288 metres high with 62 floors above ground level, 3 levels of basement plus, of course, the ground floor itself.

The model was passed from Oasys GSA structural analysis & design software into 3D+ and then after Tekla’s purchase of the 3-Design business the model was brought into Tekla Structures for completion, showing the true collaborative qualities of the Tekla software.
"This is the second year running that a model from a Consulting Engineer has won one of the categories (after Buro Happold won the Student category last year) and shows that the Tekla Structures offering is now giving benefits to all sectors of the construction industry. The Pinnacle is a fantastic example to showcase the capabilities of Tekla Structures and it is great to see that the software is now used for almost all landmark projects whether it is at design stage, manufacturing stage or both. "
Andrew Bellerby, Managing Director at Tekla (UK) Ltd.

The Tekla Structures model consists of approximately 24,000 members weighing about 10,000 tonnes.
