The city of Oulu adopted Tekla Solution for infrastructure designers in 1992. The several different locations of the city offices and the city's decentralized operations required fast and reliable data processing and centralized data control. Tekla's software saved time as all the users could easily access the same information. Oulu already had experience with the Tekla GIS and the competence of Tekla's technical support, which made the decision easy. The city was also pleased with the possibility to be involved in the further development of the solution. "Developing the tools sprung from our needs," says Markku Mustonen from the Technical Services Department of the city.
Tekla Solution is in all-round use in Oulu. The core of the solution, Tekla Civil, provides efficient tools for planning the streets and public areas as well as their networks, such as the water supply or street lighting networks of the city. With Tekla Civil, it is easy to compare the costs and functionalities of different plan options, and the planning process can be divided into parts, allowing each sector to work with the same data simultaneously. In addition, Tekla Solution makes customer service more efficient through easy information distribution.
In September 2002, the city of Oulu adopted Tekla GIS, which included both geographical and municipal register data, enabling the unification of the city database system. "Tekla's solution has all we need," Mustonen says about the functionality of the system, and designer Antti Sipola adds: "We could never purchase and keep tools that don't work. Systems must support our daily operations, and Tekla's solution sure has done that".
