A Smart Grid is able to intelligently integrate all users that are connected to it – the producers of electricity, network utilities, customers and those that both produce and use electricity.
Tekla Solution for electricity utilities already includes several Smart Grid features and functionalities, for example:
- The switching state of the network
can be shown and controlled on several voltage levels.
- Real-time connection to SCADA system
transfers information about status and current and voltage metering.
- AMR/AMI integration
enables the control of faults and quality data of low voltage networks.
- Automatic outage information
provides up-to-date information about faults or interruptions to customers.
- Distributed production
is supported, for example, through integrated topology management.
Tekla Solution for electricity utilities is actively devloped for functionalities which can be used to control smart electricity networks and allow the utilization of information obtained from these networks in controlling electricity networks.
The goals of Tekla’s development work are:
- Utilizing metering and status information obtained from the network in analyzing the network state, optimizing network usage and improving the quality of electricity distribution.
- Real-time integrations to smart network components and other subsystems.
- Supporting distributed production by controlling and utilizing network components related to it in network planning.
- Improving information and up-to-date information services to control room staff, work groups, customer service and customers.
- Supporting the control of network assets from planning, documentation and operation to maintenance and reporting.
In addition to research and development of its own, Tekla also takes part in both national and international research programs. The target is to create an electricity distribution network which serves the needs of the future, and to develop a new generation automation solution that utilizes the latest information technology.
