Network documentation

Utilities invest considerable sums in their district heating and cooling networks. To protect the value of this operational asset, it is important to know the exact location, condition and properties of all parts of the network.

Tekla Xpower stores all geographic and attribute data of a district heating or cooling network in a single open database. The data model of the database follows a product modeling concept.

The data model makes it possible to present all stored data in a variety of ways including network and thematic maps, and topological views, which can be shown in multiple scales.

The actual network objects and the amount of information stored for each object differ between installations according to customer needs. With Tekla Xpower, the required level of detail and information can be tailored for each utility, serving the needs of both large and small networks.

All network data can be managed through the Tekla Xpower graphical user interface. Tekla Xpower offers, for example, the following data management functionalities:

  • Multiple users can enter and modify the data in the database simultaneously.

  • Data imports from and exports to all common non-proprietary data formats, such as DXF and DGN, are supported.

  • During a data import, the quality of the data is checked to ensure that the network is correctly modeled in a format that suits future exploitation.

  • Various tools, for example, for attribute copying and inconsistent network and multiple-scale maps, are provided to improve network quality. These tools ensure that the data quality improves as the data accumulates in the database.

  • The system creates the network graphics and symbols as well as their size and color by using predefined rules. This means that different graphical presentation styles can be used in network operation, planning and maintenance tasks.

The network data can also be accessed using the web and or mobile devices.
