Tekla Xpower

Tekla Xpower is a Network Information System (NIS) system designed for operational asset management of energy utilities (both electricity distribution, and district heating and cooling). The Tekla Xpower system consists of a ready-made data model, a database and configurable set of applications and functionalities.

Tekla Xpower gathers the data on the utility's energy network into a single database. Since the database contains location information for each network object, Tekla Xpower offers fully integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) functionality. With the Tekla Xpower applications, the user can utilize that data to perform key work processes related to the energy network management, from network planning and operation to maintenance and customer service.

Tekla Xpower is a multi-user system that allows different work processes to simultaneously use and maintain the same data, as needed. To increase the amount of data readily available for each process, the system can also be integrated into other information systems used in energy utilities, for example, to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Customer Information Systems (CIS). As a result, Tekla Xpower significantly improves the quality and cost-efficiency of the utility’s entire operation throughout the network lifecycle.

International standardization

Tekla is the sole Finnish member of the IEC TC57 WG14*, which works for standards in distribution systems. The task of the WG14 group is to identify and establish requirements for standard interfaces of a Distribution Management System (DMS) based on interface architecture. The standard is the first in a series of standards that, taken as a whole, define interfaces for the major elements of DMSs. Subsequent standards will be developed in accordance with the interfaces defined in this task.

For more information, see WG14 group and related work.

* International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) consists of national committees. The Technical Committees (TC) are responsible for developing international standards. The Working Group 14 (WG14) is creating a System Interfaces for Distributions System Specification, IEC 61968.
