Build Live Tokyo has been described as the F1 race of the Japanese building business circle. Tekla Japan participates the first Build Live Tokyo as a team member of the Maeda Corporation's Building Design Department. Build Live Tokyo is part of an international event series organized by the buildingSMART(TM) International Alliance for Interoperability.
Build Live Tokyo 2009 is a building design competition that introduces applications of 3D BIM (Building Information Modeling) in Japan. The event organized by the Japan Association of the buildingSMART International Alliance for Interoperability is scheduled to be held for forty-eight (48) hours from 25 to 27 February 2009.
Similar events have been previously organized in Europe and the United States by the name BIM Storm. In these events participating teams complete a 3D building information model according to a given theme in a one to two-day time span via the Internet. This year is the first time that the Japanese version of the same event is held. The competition requires speed and accuracy to the extent that it is referred to by the media as the F1 race of the building business circle. Spectators can sign up for the event to observe team conditions in real time via the Internet (see web links below).
Tekla K.K. is part of a team named SKUNK WORKS, the members of which are mostly volunteers from the Maeda Corporation's Building Design Department. The team will stretch time limits in designing their building by making fullest use of the Maeda Corporation's 3D-CAD/BIM, which has earned a high reputation in the Japanese building business circle.
Tekla K.K. invites spectators to see how much of the planning, architecture, structure, and HVAC as well as environmental simulations the team members will be able to accomplish within 48 hours. Other teams include architectural design offices, general contractors, software companies, all of which are well-established companies in 3D CAD/BIM, and participate in the competition across business boundaries. The spectators are bound to enjoy a cutting-edge competition that demonstrates Japan's latest building technology.
The SKUNK WORKS is a compound team composed of four different companies, the Maeda Corporation's Building Design Department, Tekla K.K., Graphisoft Japan and RIK Corporation. The team has opened a blog for a limited time before the start of the competition, no later than 12:00 p.m on 25 February 2009. This blog provides timely updates on the conditions of the team as they struggle to win the competition.
